Imphal, June 23 2025:
With the Imphal-Dimapur road remaining cutoff due to a massive landslide in Phesama area of Nagaland, Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA) urged state authorities to consult with their Nagaland counterparts for early repair of the road to facilitate uninterrupted transportation of goods into the state.
According to MDA general secretary Sanjoy Kshetrimayum, the landslide at Phesama has worsened due to heavy and incessant rainfall over the past few days, expressing fear that repair of the road section is unlikely to complete till the end of rainy season.
Considering this, transporter associations of both Manipur and Nagaland including MDA, Dimapur District Truck Drivers' Union, Kohima District Truck Drivers and Owners' Association, Senapati District Truck Drivers' Union, Senapati District Truck Owners' Association and Manipur Gorkha Drivers' Welfare Association, under the aegis of North East Federation of Trade Union (NEFTU), are developing Kedima-Mao by-pass road to transport essential items into the state.
However, the condition of the by-pass road has also deteriorated due to overloading, necessitating strict restrictions to limit 12 tonne trucks to ply on the route, he said, adding that relevant transporters' associations and unions would be intimated for necessary action against overloading.
According to Sanjoy, the people of Manipur would suffer more if the Kedima-Mao by-pass road happens to be cut-off.
"It has been almost one month since the landslide at Phesama cut off the Imphal-Dimapur road but none of the state authorities including the Governor and chief secretary have responded to the issue so far," he said and urged state authorities to consult with Nagaland government for early repair of the road.
